  • Make Announcements (Raff will admit that this was a scary one when he first started DJing but there are so many things that a mic can solve quickly - lost phone, getting speeches set up, etc - so being able to do this is a necessity)

  • Be a family member or friend (although Raff would like you to book him as your MC, he also studies psychology and has seen enough events in his 8 years to know that a member of the family or trusted friend will always perform better as an MC - science, baby)

  • Let the family member or friend enjoy themselves! (at the end of the day, it is still work and here are some quick-fire reasons of why you should go with Raff: they think they’re funnier than they are, they’re not one to prepare, they’re known to double-park or you truly just want them to have fun)

  • Understand the nuances of the event (Raff will admit that he has many mistakes up until this point to get to a solid level where he can make the night go smoothly and there are subtle things that can be included, which go along way. An example of this is knowing when to stay sombre after an emotional speech or crack a lighthearted gag after an extremely awkward moment)

  • Aid the flow of the event (After doing this for a long time, Raff has seen that no event is perfect. Some times sunset photos get delayed by an hour or other times mains come out too early and it’s up to the MC to be aware of this. An MC is not a magician that can will these things back into perfection but a great MC will be able to work with all involved to rejig elements of the night and get bums into seats when necessary)
